In 2007, Rieu completed his eight disc Saint-Gervais released by Justin Time. This new recording, captured live in Paris last December, 2006, features Rieu’s trio, with bassist Nicolas Rageau and drummer Philippe Soirat at the club “Les 7 Lézards”.
An improviser, creator of moods and composer, Yannick Rieu does not work with mere concepts. His inspiration grows out of a highly personal vision and a poetic approach to music. Though acutely aware of the incredible heritage left by generations of musicians who came before, he experiences music very much in the here-and-now and does not like to confuse matters by assigning influences or labels to his art.
Yannick Rieu tours regularly either with his own band or as a guest artist and has performed his music throughout Canada and abroad in France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Portugal, Italy and China. He has collaborated with musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie, Toots Thielemans, Paul Bley, Jon Hendricks, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Bill Carrothers, Horace Parlan, John Hicks, and Christian Vander. |
